Hitching A1 adalah dokumenter perjalanan sang sutradara dari London ke Edinburgh dengan menumpang kendaraan orang lain. Dalam perjalanannya, dokumenter ini merekam dialog keseharian yang spontan dari perjumpaan antara dua pihak yang belum saling kenal. Cara Gary McQuiggin membidik dan menyusun gambarnya mengimpresikan panorama lokasi dan pemetaan tradisi tua yang humanis di Inggris tentang fenomena orang menumpang mobil ditengah jalan (hitchhiking).

Hitching A1 is a road documentary of the filmmaker’s journey from London to Edinburgh by hitchhiking. In a way, this documentary records the daily spontaneous dialogue from the encounter between two sides who have not known each other beforehand. How Gary McQuiggin shoots and composes his images giving an impression of  panoramic location and the process of mapping an old yet humane tradition in England about the hitchhiking phenomenon.

Gary McQuiggin

Gary McQuiggin lahir di kota Shrewsbury, Inggris pada 1988. Ia mendapat gelar sarjana Filem dan Video di University of Arts pada 2008. Dia tertarik dengan landscape art, trik kamera, paham D.I.Y. (Do It Your Self) punk, radikalisme dan membuat filem diari. Karyanya telah diputar dalam festival (hampir) seluruh Eropa (termasuk Cannes dan Sheffield Doc/Fest), Televisi-televisi yang dapat diakses oleh publik di Amerika; seperti instalasi, layar tancap maupun TV-Wall Projection.

Gary McQuiggin (b. 1988) was born in the English town of Shrewsbury, studied BA Film & Video at the University of the Arts in 2008. He has an interest in landscape art, camera trickery, DIY punk, radicalism and diary filmmaking. His work has been screened across Europe at festivals (including Cannes & Sheffield Doc/Fest), on public access television in the US, as installations, in squatted cinemas and on the walls of a fortress.
