The Day Has Conquered the Night chronicled the dreams and aspirations of eight inmates in a prison somewhere in France. The approach of this documentary is very simple. The filmmaker let the inmates talk about whatever they want to the camera. Emotions then are emphasized through various melodies of music that accompany their confession. Soon all these audiovisual cues lead to one thing: repetition, that is emblematic of the boredom felt by the inmates of the life they lead behind prison bars.
