Penayangan dimulai dengan pemaparan kuratorial dari <\/span>Wahyu Budiman Dasta<\/b> yang menjelaskan tentang bagaimana informasi yang melimpah menjadi modal awal untuk membongkar atau menantang sistem yang mapan dalam realitas yang mapan. Realitas dapat dibingkai dalam berbagai medium, salah satunya dengan medium filem. Dengan filem, sutradara dapat mengubah, menambah dan menyusun potongan-potongan realitas sesuai dengan visi dan misi filem yang dibuat sutradara. Ketiga film dalam kuratorial ini menunjukkan bagaimana masing-masing sutradara memiliki caranya dalam membingkai realitas, mulai dari permainan narasi dan bingkaian kamera terhadap tokoh seperti dalam filem <\/span>Fatima (2022), <\/span><\/i>memainkan dan mengganggu visual seperti filem <\/span>The Secret Garden (2023), <\/span><\/i>dan mencampur dua medium yaitu foto dan video dalam filem <\/span>Periphery of the Wind (2022)<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Filem pertama yang ditayangkan, <\/span>Fatima <\/span><\/i>buatan <\/span>Sourabh Kanti Dutta,<\/b> menceritakan bagaimana <\/span>Fatima<\/b> yang telah diperjualbelikan oleh mucikari saat umurnya yang masih 9 tahun, berjuang dengan keras melawan perdagangan manusia di Red Light District. Fatima, selain diterpa dengan masalah pribadinya, juga ditekan oleh masyarakat yang tidak suka dengan kehadirannya, masyarakat menganggap Fatima sebagai polusi yang mengganggu masyarakat, karena mau bagaimanapun masyarakat di sana sudah terkekang dengan kehidupan prostitusi yang sudah menjadi tradisi di lokasi tersebut. Situasi sistem yang sudah mapan sejak lama ini memang sangatlah keruh, namun semangat Fatima yang berkobar dalam menantang sistem tersebut akan melahirkan Fatima yang lain yang akan meneruskan perjuangannya yang belum selesai. Menurut Wahyu Budiman Dasta, filem Fatima tidak akan terjadi tanpa bantuan sang tokoh, dan sebaliknya juga seperti itu, sang tokoh juga sadar bahwa gerakan yang ia lakukan dibantu oleh filem.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Secret Garden<\/span><\/i>, buatan <\/span>Nour Ouayda<\/b>, filem kedua ini membingkai realitas dengan sangat imajinatif. Lewat kamera sang sutradara yang menyorot tanaman-tanaman di sekitar kota, kita dipandu ke sebuah dunia yang jauh dengan sangat wajar. Narator dalam filem ini dapat membengkokkan realitas yang sudah kita pahami sejak lama, dengan sangat puitik dan sekali lagi, wajar. Kita mengikuti kisah dua orang perempuan menemukan tanaman yang belum pernah ada di kota itu sebelumnya, mereka terus memperbincangkan tanaman-tanaman yang ada di sekitar kota tersebut hingga menimbulkan pertanyaan-pertanyaan liar di pikiran penonton.\u00a0 Filem ini menantang kemapanan filem konvensional dengan menanamkan persepsi dan asumsi baru ke penonton dengan penyusunan konstruksi visual dan narasi yang sangat sublim. Wahyu berpendapat bahwa filem ini seperti kolase, penggabungan antara visual dan dialog, dikombinasi sebagai filem yang memiliki suasana pendongengan.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Filem ketiga, <\/span>Periphery of the Wind<\/span><\/i> karya <\/span>Reza Kutjh<\/b>, mengajak penonton untuk berpetualang dan membayangkan narasi sendiri lewat susunan visual dan suara yang imajinatif, jukstaposisi antar medium foto dan filem yang kadang hadir dalam filem ini menanamkan suatu paksaan untuk berasumsi pada pikiran penonton. Teka-teki apakah yang hadir di layar? Merupakan sebuah video atau foto? Menjadi pertanyaan yang menarik ketika dibicarakan lebih lanjut, karena ternyata kita dapat melihat perbedaan yang signifikan ketika suatu realitas dibingkai dalam medium yang berbeda. Bidikan-bidikan kamera terhadap objek-objek seperti arsitektur ataupun tanaman yang disusun rapi dengan ditemani suara membuat interpretasi kita terhadap suatu lokasi menjadi lebih luas dan mengajak penonton untuk mempertanyakan kembali bagaimana medium filem dengan sangat efektif dapat membingkai suatu permasalahan lokasi dan menghasilkan wacana yang lebih luas untuk dibicarakan. Wahyu menambahkan bahwa suara angin di sini merupakan tombak utama untuk menembus perpindahan-perpindahan visual yang disajikan, angin menjadi tokoh dalam dialektika analog dan digital, perpindahan antar medium, ruang, perspektif, dan komposisi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dari ketiga filem tersebut, kita dapat menemukan bahwa dalam kuratorial ini, sistem yang dibongkar bukan hanya sistem yang terdapat dalam realita, namun sistem filem konvensional yang sudah mapan juga dibongkar dan ditantang oleh para sutradara, kompleksitas realitas dapat dibingkai oleh filem dengan sangat cair, efektif dan sublim dalam merepresentasikan suatu wacana yang dapat memantik penonton untuk membicarakan wacana tersebut lebih lanjut.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”English” tab_id=”1672356843702-2655322e-0974″][vc_column_text title=”International Competition 02: Challenging the Established through the Medium of Film” css=”.vc_custom_1695718014813{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Re-framing Reality<\/span><\/i>, so the curatorial title on Monday, September 25, 2023, the second day of ARKIPEL <\/span>Noli Me Tangere \u2013 10<\/span><\/i>th<\/span><\/i> Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival<\/span><\/i>. The screening began with a curatorial presentation from <\/span>Wahyu Budiman Dasta<\/b> who explained how abundant information became the initial capital to dismantle or challenge the established system in an established reality. Reality can be framed in various mediums, one of which is with the medium of film, with film, the director can change, add and arrange pieces of reality according to the vision and mission of the director. The three films in this curatorial show how each director has their own way to framing reality, playing with narrative and camera framing on characters in the film <\/span>Fatima <\/span><\/i>(2022), messing and disturbing visuals in the film <\/span>The Secret Garden<\/span><\/i> (2023), and mixing two mediums, which are photos and videos in the film <\/span>Periphery of the Wind <\/span><\/i>(2022).<\/span><\/p>\n

The first film shown, <\/span>Fatima <\/span><\/i>by <\/span>Sourabh Kanti Datta<\/b>, tells the story of how <\/span>Fatima<\/b>, who was sold by a pimp at the age of 9, fought hard against human trafficking in the Red Light District. Fatima, apart from being hit by her personal problems, is also pressured by the community who do not like her presence, the community considers Fatima as pollution that disturbs the community, because after all the people there are already constrained by the life of prostitution that has become a tradition in that location. The situation of this long-established system is indeed very murky, but Fatima\u2019s fierce spirit in challenging the system will trigger another Fatima who will continue her unfinished struggle. According to Wahyu Budiman Dasta, <\/span>Fatima<\/span><\/i> would not have happened without the help of the character, and vice versa, the character is also aware that her movement is helped by the film.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Secret Garden<\/span><\/i>, by<\/span> Nour Ouayda<\/b>, frames reality very imaginatively. Through the director’s camera that captures the plants around the city, we are guided to a world beyond in a very natural way. The narrator in this film can bend the reality that we have understood for a long time, very poetically and once again, naturally. We follow the story of two women discovering plants that have never existed in the city before, they continue to talk about the plants around the city, raising wild questions in the minds of the audience. This film challenges the conventional film by instilling new perceptions and assumptions into the audience with a very sublime visual and narrative construction. Wahyu said that this film is like a collage, a combination of visuals and dialog combined as a film that has a storytelling atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>\n

The third film, <\/span>Periphery of the Wind<\/span><\/i> by <\/span>Reza Kutjh<\/b>, invites the audience to adventure and imagine their own narrative through an imaginative arrangement of visuals and sound, the juxtaposition between photo and film that is sometimes present in this film instills a compulsion to assume in the mind of the audience. What is the riddle on the screen? Is it a video or a photograph? It becomes an interesting question to discuss further, because it turns out that we can see significant differences when a reality is framed in different mediums. Camera shots of objects such as architecture or plants that are neatly arranged accompanied by sound make our interpretation of a location broader and invite the audience to question how the medium of film can very effectively frame a problem location and produce a broader discourse to be discussed. Wahyu added that the sound of the wind here is the main spear to penetrate the visual displacements presented, the wind becoming a character in the dialectic of analog and digital, displacement between mediums, space, perspective, and composition.<\/span><\/p>\n
