Itulah yang menjadi pusat filem-filem dalam sesi ini. Pada tanggal 26 September 2023, hari ketiga ARKIPEL <\/span>Noli Me Tangere \u2013 10th Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Otty Widasari <\/b>selaku kurator memaknai filem-filem tersebut sebagai \u201cpuisi milenium\u201d dalam tulisannya yang berjudul <\/span>Puisi Milenium: Kekuatan Super Orang-Orang Biasa<\/span><\/i>. <\/span>Otty Widasari <\/b>membuka pemutaran filem dengan memperkenalkan diri sebagai bagian dari generasi X. Ia menyinggung adanya pergeseran budaya yang signifikan pada generasi setelah dirinya, yaitu generasi Y atau Milenial sebagai dampak dari kemajuan teknologi. Kemajuan teknologi dan lahirnya media sosial memberikan perubahan besar dalam nilai-nilai dan lanskap sosial kehidupan, khususnya pada Milenial. Keterhubungan tak berbatas yang dihadirkan oleh media sosial memungkinkan mereka untuk membentuk persahabatan yang termediasi, untuk menilai dan dinilai oleh orang lain, dan untuk membentuk persepsi mereka sendiri tentang diri mereka sendiri melalui orang lain. Meningkatkan eksistensi diri menjadi hal yang sangat penting. Melalui perjalanan ini kita bisa melihat perbedaan antar penumpang dan juga antar generasi: keinginan, kekhawatiran, cara berbicara, dan cara mereka mengungkapkan kasih sayang kepada satu sama lain. Bagaimana hal-hal kecil, hal-hal biasa, yang sering luput dari pandangan kita ditangkap dan kemudian diabadikan melalui kamera.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dua filem berikutnya, <\/span>Will You Look At Me<\/span><\/i> karya <\/span>Shuli Huang<\/b> dan <\/span>Cherries<\/span><\/i> karya <\/span>Vytautas Katkus<\/b> mengusung tema yang mirip: rekonsiliasi dan pembicaraan dari hati ke hati antara orang tua dan anak. <\/span>Will You Look At Me<\/span><\/i> adalah wujud upaya <\/span>Shuli Huan mendapat penerimaan dari ibunya, berkisar tentang dialog intim seputar seksualitasnya, aspirasi ibunya, dan gesekan antara nilai-nilai modern dan tradisional di antara mereka. <\/span>Cherries<\/span><\/i> oleh <\/span>Vytautas Katkus<\/b> menggambarkan kisah seorang pemuda dan ayahnya yang periang yang mencoba untuk dekat kembali dengannya saat memetik ceri dan menikmati makan siang bersama. Tidak ada drama, hanya perbincangan kecil antara satu sama lain. Manta Ray<\/span><\/i> karya <\/span>Anton Bialas <\/b>bercerita tentang bagaimana reaksi anak muda terhadap situasi sosial politik di Paris melalui kehidupan tiga tokohnya. Masing-masing dari mereka mempunyai cara unik dalam mengungkapkan pikiran dan perasaannya terhadap keadaan, baik melalui musik, aksi langsung, atau puisi. Tiga cerita individu yang terajut oleh motif yang sama ini memberikan pandangan yang lebih luas tentang situasi di sekitar mereka.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pemutaran filem ditutup dengan <\/span>Mangosteen<\/span><\/i> karya <\/span>Tulapop Saenjaroen<\/b>, yang berkisah tentang seseorang yang kembali ke kampung halaman untuk bekerja di pabrik pengolahan buah milik kakaknya. Kisah cerdik tentang benturan antar generasi, antara tua dan muda. Sebuah cara untuk memberontak terhadap nilai-nilai lama tidak hanya dalam isi cerita filemnya, tetapi juga dengan menolak memberikan kelanjutan alur penceritaan yang koheren dan masuk akal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Semua cerita ini bisa dilihat sebagai bentuk pengabaian terhadap budaya sinema yang dominan, di mana proses penciptaan filem yang sebelumnya adalah untuk merespon dan\u00a0 memenuhi kebutuhan pasar, bergeser menjadi untuk merespon dan memenuhi kebutuhan diri. That’s what the films in this session are centered around. On September 26, 2023, the third day of ARKIPEL <\/span>Noli Me Tangere – 10th Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Otty Widasari<\/b> as the curator interpreted the films as “millennium poetry” in her article entitled <\/span>Millennium Poetry: The Superpower of Ordinary People<\/span><\/i>. Otty Widasari opened the screening by introducing herself as part of generation X. She alluded to the cultural shifts that have occurred in the past. She alluded to a significant cultural shift in the generation after her, namely generation Y or Millennials as a result of technological advances. Technological advances and the birth of social media have brought about major changes in values and the social landscape of life, especially for Millennials. The infinite interconnectivity presented by social media allows them to create mediated friendships, to judge and be judged by others, and to shape their own perceptions of themselves through others. Enhancing self-existence became very important. People started sharing their opinions, reacting to things, and showing parts of their daily lives thus turning the private space into public consumption.<\/span><\/p>\n

The screening began with <\/span>Aqueronte<\/span><\/i> by <\/span>Manuel Mu\u00f1oz Rivas<\/b>. The movie shows a boring yet serene ferry ride. The atmosphere is one of tranquility and intimacy. Through this ride we can see the differences between passengers and also between generations: their desires, their worries, their way of speaking, and the way they express affection for each other. How the little things, the ordinary things, that often escape our sight are captured and then immortalized through the camera.<\/span><\/p>\n

The next two films, <\/span>Shuli Huang<\/b>‘s <\/span>Will You Look at Me<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Vytautas Katkus<\/b>‘ <\/span>Cherries <\/span><\/i>share similar themes: reconciliation and heart-to-heart talks between parents and children. <\/span>Will You Look at Me<\/span><\/i> is Shuli Huan’s attempt to gain acceptance from his mother, revolving around an intimate dialog around his sexuality, his mother’s aspirations, and the friction between modern and traditional values between them. <\/span>Cherries<\/em> by Vytautas Katkus depicts the story of a young man and his jovial father who try to reconnect with him while picking cherries and enjoying lunch together. There is no drama, just small talk between each other. Although these two movies share similar themes, they not only feature a slightly contrasting atmosphere but also different ways of expressing individual stories. <\/span>Will You Look at Me<\/span><\/i> is an autobiographical documentary, while <\/span>Cherries<\/span><\/i> is a biographical fiction documentary. <\/span>Will You Look at Me<\/span><\/i> is filled with heart-wrenching and intense emotions, while <\/span>Cherries<\/span><\/i> is more cheerful and relaxed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Anton Bialas<\/b>‘ <\/span>Manta Ray<\/span><\/i> tells the story of how young people react to the socio-political situation in Paris through the lives of three characters. Each of them has a unique way of expressing their thoughts and feelings towards the situation, whether through music, direct action, or poetry. These three individual stories intertwined by a common motive provide a broader view of the situation around them.<\/span><\/p>\n

The screening closed with <\/span>Tulapop Saenjaroen<\/b>‘s <\/span>Mangosteen<\/span><\/i>, about a man who returns to his hometown to work in his sister’s fruit processing factory. A clever story about the clash between generations, between old and young. A way to rebel against old values not only in the content of the movie, but also by refusing to provide a coherent and plausible continuation of the storyline.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All of these stories can be seen as a form of disregard for the dominant cinema culture, where the process of filmmaking, which was previously to respond and fulfill the needs of the market, shifted to respond and fulfill the needs of the self. From an expansive landscape to a more private one. Distancing themselves from political issues and turning their attention to themselves: their feelings and the chronicles of their lives.
