Kurator, <\/span>Dini Adanurani<\/b>, membuka sesi dengan menyebutkan bahwa dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, lanskap dan lokasi menjadi tema dominan dalam filem-filem yang akan diputar dengan tujuan untuk kembali mengenal dan mengurai kompleksitas lanskap alam dan sosial di sekitar para pembuat filem; meletakkan wilayah mereka dalam kisi-kisi peta peristiwa sosio-politik terkini melalui tangkapan-tangkapan citra.<\/span><\/p>\n

Filem pertama yang diputar adalah <\/span>Ritual, Belahan IV: Bauran<\/span><\/i> (2022) karya <\/span>Robby Ocktavian<\/b>. Melalui <\/span>Ritual<\/span><\/i>, Robby mencoba mengkontekstualisasikan novel <\/span>Upacara<\/span><\/i> karya <\/span>Korrie Layun Rampan <\/b>dengan kondisi Samarinda hari ini<\/span>. <\/b>Ritual<\/span><\/i> menangkap sudut-sudut kota Samarinda melalui sudut pandang orang pertama, sehingga penonton seakan menjadi subjek langsung yang mengalami dan melintasi lokasi-lokasi tersebut. Yang menarik dari ritual adalah dalam beberapa adegan, Robby menabrak dan menumpuk garis-garis, tekstur, dan teks yang berbeda-beda dalam satu bingkai, yang menyebabkan penonton mendapatkan banyak pengalaman visual saat menonton.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Periphery of the Wind (2022)<\/span><\/i> karya <\/span>Reza Kutjh <\/b>menjadi filem kedua yang diputar setelah <\/span>Ritual. <\/span><\/i>Filem ini mencoba menelusuri lokasi-lokasi di sekitar Yogyakarta, tepatnya di daerah Kulon Progo. Reza awalnya memperlihatkan kondisi tanah dan alam di sekitar Kulon Progo, namun setelahnya ia mulai menyusuri bangunan-bangunan yang telah bobrok dan lama ditinggalkan. <\/span>Periphery of the Wind <\/span><\/i>menyatukan gambar statis dan gambar bergerak, beberapa bunyi intens juga dimunculkan saat ditampilkan gambar-gambar tertentu. Tangkapan foto dan video dari Reza dalam filem ini juga sangat apik dan rapi sehingga membuat penonton betah untuk melihatnya.<\/span><\/p>\n

Filem ketiga adalah <\/span>Ghost Light<\/span><\/i> (2021) arahan <\/span>Timoteus Anggawan Kusno. <\/b>Ghost Light <\/span><\/i>merupakan filem yang menarik karena penonton dapat melihat dua bingkai secara bersamaan. Dalam bingkai pertama di sebelah kiri, terdapat orang-orang yang menghasilkan bunyi untuk adegan yang ditampilkan di bingkai kedua di sebelah kanan. Melalui <\/span>performance art<\/span><\/i>, filem ini mencoba memperlihatkan kondisi represi kekuasaan dan bagaimana proses politis itu bekerja dan diinternalisasikan ke dalam gerak tubuh. Melalui <\/span>Ghost Light<\/span><\/i>, Timoteus seolah mengajak penonton untuk mengulik lebih dalam bagaimana proses pembuatan bunyi untuk sebuah filem bekerja.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Setelah pemutaran ketiga filem, sesi dilanjutkan dengan diskusi bersama Robby Ocktavian dan Reza Kutjh. Dini Adanurani, sebagai kurator dan moderator menyampaikan bahwa apa yang menarik dari filem Robby adalah bagaimana sudut pandang orang pertama<\/span> bisa menubuh ke dalam sebuah kamera. Sementara apa yang menarik dari filem Reza adalah bagaimana mengambil jarak dalam pengambilan gambar, bagaimana mengkomposisi foto dan video secara bersamaan, serta hadirnya perasaan bahwa beberapa adegan seperti menggantung di tengah-tengah waktu.<\/span><\/p>\n

Terdapat beberapa pertanyaan dalam sesi tanya jawab. Dua orang bertanya seputar alasan Reza dan Robby tidak menempatkan manusia sebagai subjek sementara kota sangat identik dengan manusia. Robby menjawab bahwa sesuai dengan buku <\/span>Upacara<\/span><\/i>, ia ingin menjadikan kamera sebagai \u201cmanusia\u201dnya, sehingga ia tidak lagi perlu menyorot manusia sebagai subjek dalam <\/span>Ritual<\/span><\/i>. Sementara Reza menyebutkan bahwa yang ingin ia tampilkan dalam filemnya tersebut adalah bagaimana dampak yang dihasilkan manusia kepada alam, oleh karena itu ia tidak ingin memasukkan unsur manusia ke dalam filemnya.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pertanyaan lain adalah mengenai bagaimana konstruksi filem dari <\/span>Ritual<\/span><\/i> dan <\/span>Periphery of the Wind<\/span><\/i>. Robby menjelaskan bahwa konstruksi ide dari film <\/span>Ritual <\/span><\/i>adalah bagaimana menarasikan apa yang ditulis dalam buku <\/span>Upacara<\/span><\/i> serta bagaimana menghubungkannya dengan Samarinda hari ini. Sementara Reza menjelaskan konstruksi ide dari filemnya adalah mengenai konflik tanah yang terjadi di Yogyakarta serta bagaimana proses bangunan-bangunan terbengkalai dan proyek mangkrak yang ada di daerah tempat Reza tinggal.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”English” tab_id=”1672356843702-2655322e-0974″][vc_column_text title=”Candrawala II: Framing the City” css=”.vc_custom_1696380221437{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Curation of <\/span>Mapping the Grid<\/span><\/i> in ARKIPEL <\/span>Noli Me Tangere \u2013 10th Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival<\/span><\/i> continues on Saturday, 30 September 2023 at 19.00 pm, after the film <\/span>Ininnawa: An Island Calling<\/span><\/i> (2023) was screened the previous day for the same curation theme. The curator, <\/span>Dini Adanurani<\/b>, opened the session by stating that in recent years, landscape and location have become dominant themes in the films that will be screened with the aim of reacquainting and unravelling the complexity of the natural and social landscape around the filmmakers; placing their territory in a map grid of current socio-political events through image.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first film screened was <\/span>Ritual, Part IV: The Blend (2022)<\/span><\/i> by <\/span>Robby Ocktavian<\/b>. Through <\/span>Ritual<\/span><\/i>, Robby tries to contextualize the novel titled <\/span>Upacara<\/span><\/i> by <\/span>Korrie Layun Rampan<\/b> with the conditions in Samarinda today. <\/span>Ritual<\/span><\/i> captures corners of the city of Samarinda from a first person perspective, hence the audience seems to be a direct subject experiencing and traversing these locations. What’s interesting about <\/span>Ritual<\/span><\/i> is that in several scenes, Robby bumps and stacks different lines, textures and text in one frame, which causes the audience to have a lot of visual experiences while watching.<\/span><\/p>\n

Periphery of the Wind (2022)<\/span><\/i> by <\/span>Reza Kutjh<\/b> is the second film screened after <\/span>Ritual<\/span><\/i>. This film tries to explore locations around Yogyakarta, specifically in the Kulon Progo area. Reza initially showed the condition of the land and nature around Kulon Progo, but after that he began to explore buildings that were broken and long-abandoned. <\/span>Periphery of the Wind<\/span><\/i> combines static and moving images, some intense sounds are also produced when certain images are displayed. Reza’s photos and videos in this film are also very neat that the audience feels comfortable watching them.<\/span><\/p>\n

The third film is <\/span>Ghost Light (2021)<\/span><\/i> directed by <\/span>Timoteus Anggawan Kusno<\/b>. <\/span>Ghost Light<\/span><\/i> is an interesting film because the audience can see two frames simultaneously. In the first frame on the left, there are people producing sounds for the scene shown in the second frame on the right. Through performance art, this film tries to show the conditions of power repression and how the political process works and is internalized in body movements. Through <\/span>Ghost Light<\/span><\/i>, Timoteus seems to invite the audience to explore more deeply how the process of making sound for a film works.<\/span><\/p>\n

After screening the three films, the session continued with a discussion with Robby Ocktavian and Reza Kutjh. Dini Adanurani, as curator and moderator, said that what is interesting about Robby’s film is how the first person perspective can be seen in a camera, while what is interesting about Reza’s film is how Reza takes distance when taking pictures, how Reza composes photos and videos in an orderly manner. Simultaneously, as well as the feeling that some scenes seem to be hanging in the middle of time.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are several questions in the question and answer session. Two people asked why Reza and Robby did not place humans as subjects when cities are so synonymous with humans. Robby answered that in accordance with the <\/span>Upacara <\/span><\/i>book, he wanted to make the camera his \u201chuman\u201d, so that he no longer needed to highlight humans as subjects in the <\/span>Ritual<\/span><\/i>. Meanwhile, Reza said that what he wanted to show in his film was the impact that humans have on nature, therefore he did not want to include human elements in his film.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another question is regarding the film construction of <\/span>Ritual<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Periphery of the Wind<\/span><\/i>. Robby explained that the construction of the idea for the film <\/span>Ritual<\/span><\/i> was how to narrate what was written in the book <\/span>Upacara<\/span><\/i> and how to relate it to Samarinda today.
