{"id":12805,"date":"2024-08-25T15:18:26","date_gmt":"2024-08-25T08:18:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arkipel.org\/?p=12805"},"modified":"2024-08-25T15:54:47","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T08:54:47","slug":"sensory-sharpening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arkipel.org\/sensory-sharpening\/","title":{"rendered":"Forum Festival Panel 3: Sensory Sharpening, Phenomena Perceiving"},"content":{"rendered":"[vc_row][vc_column][vc_tta_tabs][vc_tta_section title=”Bahasa Indonesia” tab_id=”1672356843695-e131d52d-9a0e”][vc_column_text title=”Forum Festival Panel 3: Mengasah Indera, Merasa Peristiwa” css=”.vc_custom_1724573487145{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Pada Jumat (23\/8) pukul 09:30 pagi, panel ketiga Forum Festival <\/span>ARKIPEL<\/span>\u00a0Garden of Earthly Delights \u2013 11th Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film <\/span><\/i>Festival<\/span> dilaksanakan di Pusat Studi Jepang, Universitas Indonesia (PSJ UI)<\/span>. <\/span>Panel dengan judul \u201cGerakan Sensibel\u201d ini mengundang tiga seniman yang memanfaatkan tubuh, teknologi, dan arsip untuk merespons fenomena-fenomena yang terjadi di kota mereka. <\/span>Ignatius Suluh<\/b> sebagai pembicara pertama memaparkan kegiatan komunitasnya, Proyek Edisi dalam merespons kota yang mereka tinggali (Yogyakarta) dengan performans. \u201cSebelum ikut performans, dulu tubuh bergerak aja. Sekarang tubuh bisa dijadikan medium aksi,\u201d ujar Ignas dalam panel. Dalam presentasinya, ia juga memperlihatkan karya-karya performans para anggota Proyek Edisi dalam kurun waktu 2021-2023. Dalam praktik yang dijalankannya, Ignas menekankan karyanya pada aspek ketegangan. Baginya aspek ketegangan merupakan bagian dari peristiwa performans. Hal ini berasal dari konsep yang ia coba hadirkan ke audiens, yaitu <\/span>kartopraxis<\/span><\/i>. <\/span>Kartopraxis<\/span><\/i> sendiri adalah pendekatan seni performans yang berorientasi pada praktik pemetaan, di mana hubungan antara pengalaman sensorik, haptik, tubuh, dan lingkungan secara aktif dieksplorasi dan direpresentasikan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Acara kemudian berlanjut kepada pembicara kedua, <\/span>Taufiqurrahman<\/b> (Ufiq) dari Mutuals\/Mutual Study, Palu. Ufiq mengatakan bahwa berdirinya komunitas ini berawal dari sebuah pertanyaan sederhana: Apakah saya mengenal wilayah yang saya tinggali? Melalui pertanyaan sederhana ini, Mutuals kemudian berusaha untuk merespons peristiwa gempa bumi yang pernah menimpa Kota Palu. Dengan memanfaatkan tubuh sebagai alat resepsi, para anggota Mutuals melakukan pencatatan atas apa yang mereka rasakan ketika peristiwa gempa itu terjadi. Melalui catatan personal tersebut, lahirlah karya-karya performans. Dalam presentasinya, ia juga memaparkan bahwa Mutuals juga memanfaatkan media <\/span>sound<\/span><\/i> untuk merekam peristiwa-peristiwa kota atas respons yang mereka tangkap. Usaha pengarsipan juga dilakukan oleh Mutuals. Ufiq mengatakan jika hasil-hasil kerja dari mutuals diarsipkan secara daring dan dapat diakses untuk publik. Media penyimpanan ini baginya begitu krusial, mengingat sebagian besar pengetahuan kebencanaan yang asalnya dari luar negeri ternyata tidak begitu relevan dengan kondisi yang terjadi di Indonesia. Dengan melakukan riset kecil dan penyimpanan ini, Ufiq mengatakan bahwa kita menjadi tahu bahwa mitigasi-mitigasi bencana itu sifatnya lebih lokal, mengikuti karakteristik wilayah sekitar.<\/span><\/p>\n

Setelah Ufiq selesai mempresentasikan komunitasnya, acara dilanjutkan dengan pemaparan <\/span>Wahyu Budiman Dasta<\/b> dengan platformnya, Sigisora. Memanfaatkan bebunyian sebagai medium utama untuk menangkap peristiwa sekitar, Sigisora menarik tangkapan-tangkapan inderawi mereka dan melakukan pembacaan atas isu ekologi, dan sosial masyarakat di sebuah wilayah. Wahyu menceritakan pengalamannya ketika melakukan praktik <\/span>soundwalk<\/span><\/i> di wilayah Kalibata Pulo. Ia menjelaskan pengalaman negosiasi serta adaptasi yang ia lakukan ketika berhadapan dengan masyarakat, sekaligus merasakan pendengarannya yang menjadi sensitif karena dibantu oleh alat perekam suara. Ia mengatakan bahwa kecanggungan dengan warga sebetulnya bisa diatasi apabila kegiatan <\/span>soundwalk<\/span><\/i> tersebut dilakukan dengan intens serta pelaku <\/span>soundwalk<\/span><\/i> yang interaktif dengan warga sekitar. Keintensifan tersebutlah yang kemudian membuat warga percaya dan terbiasa dengan keberadaan alat tersebut. Wahyu juga menjelaskan jika melalui suara, kita bisa mengetahui kondisi ekonomi yang terjadi di sebuah wilayah. Dalam kasus Kalibata Pulo yang merupakan pusat pabrik garmen rumahan, Wahyu menjelaskan jika situasi wilayah tersebut bisa terbaca melalui ramai atau heningnya suara mesin jahit. Apabila suasana kampung tersebut sepi, maka bisa diperkirakan bahwa kondisi ekonomi sedang lesu karena sepinya permintaan produksi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alifah Melisa<\/b> selaku moderator panel ketiga kemudian mempersilahkan hadirin untuk bertanya. Meskipun terlihat sebagian besar bangku kosong di auditorium, namun suasana diskusi berjalan dengan cukup ramai. <\/span>Luthfan Nur Rochman <\/b>selaku penanya pertama melayangkan pertanyaan kepada ketiga panelis mengenai pergulatan etis yang mereka hadapi ketika sedang berkarya. Mengingat karya-karya yang mereka buat juga melibatkan masyarakat. Ufiq kemudian menjawab pertanyaan Luthfan dengan mengatakan bahwa gempa bumi itu sudah menjadi peristiwa massal. Dari pengalaman yang sudah kolektif tersebut kemudian peristiwa tersebut dibingkai oleh Mutuals dengan bentuk pameran maupun eksibisi. Selain itu ia juga mengatakan bahwa kegiatan seminar yang dirangkai dengan penelitian juga kerap kali ia lakukan. Pertanyaan Luthfan disambut pula oleh Wahyu yang mengatakan bahwa sebelum praktik <\/span>soundwalk <\/span><\/i>itu dilakukan, ada baiknya si pelaku mengenali daerahnya tanpa membawa alat terlebih dahulu. Mengetahui berbagai konteks lokasi sebelum melakukan perekaman juga penting, mengingat elemen-elemen suara menjadi krusial dalam praktik Sigisora dan nantinya ketika <\/span>soundwalk<\/span><\/i> dijalankan, proses merekam suara tidak lepas dari konteks wilayah.<\/span><\/p>\n

Resepsi Indera-indera manusia dirasa masih begitu penting atas peristiwa yang terjadi di tempat yang mereka tinggali. Para seniman bila memiliki kepekaan yang tajam, akan menangkap isu-isu tersebut dan kemudian bisa menghasilkan berbagai praktik karya. Produksi pengetahuan pun akan lahir, dan diskusi atas isu-isu wilayah sekitar akan terus bergulir dan berkembang.<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”English” tab_id=”1672356843702-2655322e-0974″][vc_column_text title=”Forum Festival Panel 3: Sensory Sharpening, Phenomena Perceiving” css=”.vc_custom_1724573527266{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]On Friday (23\/8) at 9:30am, the third panel of the Forum Festival at ARKIPEL Garden of Earthly Delights – 11th Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival was held at the Center for Japanese Studies, University of Indonesia (PSJ UI). Entitled \u201cSensible Movement\u201d, the panel invited three artists who utilize the body, technology, and archives to respond to phenomena in their cities. Ignatius Suluh as the first speaker explained the activities of his community, Proyek Edisi, in responding to the city they live in (Yogyakarta) with performance. \u201cBefore participating in performance, my body was just moving. Now my body can be used as a medium of action,\u201d said Ignas in the panel. In his presentation, he also showed the performance works of the members of the Proyek Edisi in the period 2021-2023. In his practice, Ignas emphasized his work on the aspect of tension. For him, the tension aspect is part of the performance. This comes from the concept he tries to present to the audience, kartopraxis. Kartopraxis itself is a performance art approach oriented towards mapping practices, where the relationship between sensory, haptic, body and environmental experiences are actively explored and represented.<\/span><\/p>\n

The panel then moved on to the second speaker, Taufiqurrahman (Ufiq) from Mutuals\/Mutual Study, Palu. Ufiq said that the establishment of this community began with a simple question: Do I know the area I live in? Through this simple question, Mutuals then attempts to respond to the earthquake that has hit the city of Palu. By utilizing the body as a reception tool, Mutuals members recorded what they experienced when the earthquake happened. Through these personal notes, performance works were born. In his presentation, he also explained that Mutuals also utilized sound media to record the events of the city for the responses they captured. Archiving efforts are also carried out by Mutuals. Ufiq said that the results of Mutuals’ works are archived online and accessible to the public. This storage media is crucial for them, considering that most of the disaster knowledge originating from abroad is not so relevant to the conditions that occur in Indonesia. By doing this small research and storage, Ufiq said that we know how disaster mitigation is more local, following the characteristics of the surrounding area.<\/span><\/p>\n

After Ufiq finished presenting his community, the panel continued with Wahyu Budiman Dasta’s presentation about Sigisora, his platform. Utilizing sound as the main medium to capture surrounding events, Sigisora draws their sensory captures and reads the ecological and social issues of the community in an area. Wahyu shared his experience when practicing soundwalk in the Kalibata Pulo area. He explained the experience of negotiation and adaptation that he did when dealing with the community, as well as feeling his sensitive hearing because he was assisted by a sound recording device. He said that awkwardness with the community can be overcome if the soundwalk activities are carried out intensely and the soundwalkers are interactive with the local residents. The intensiveness is then what makes the community trust and get used to the existence of the device. Wahyu also explained that through sound, we can find out the economic conditions that occur in an area. In the case of Kalibata Pulo, which is the center of a home-based garment factory, Wahyu explained that the situation of the area can be read through the busy or quiet sound of the sewing machine. If the atmosphere of the village is quiet, then it can be estimated that the economic conditions are currently sluggish due to the lack of production demand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alifah Melisa as the moderator of the third panel then invited the audience to ask questions. Although there were mostly empty seats in the auditorium, the discussion was quite lively. Luthfan Nur Rochman, as the first questioner, asked the three panelists about the ethical struggles they face when creating their works. Given that the works they create also involve the public. Ufiq then answered Luthfan’s question by saying that earthquakes have become mass phenomena. From this collective experience, the event was then framed by Mutuals in the form of exhibitions. In addition, he also said that he often conducts seminars accompanied by research. Luthfan’s question was also welcomed by Wahyu who said that before the practice of soundwalking is carried out, it is better for the person to recognize the area without bringing the equipment first. Knowing the various contexts of the location before recording is also important, considering that sound elements are crucial in Sigisora’s practice and later when the soundwalk is carried out, the process of recording sound cannot be separated from the regional context.<\/span><\/p>\n

The reception of human senses is still so important for the phenomena that occur in the place where they live. Artists, if they have sharp sensitivity, will capture these issues and can then produce various practices of work.
