Sekalinya menginjak tanah di Jatiwangi maka akan terus berurusan dengan tanah. Dua puluh tahun lalu urusan itu sangat serius. Tanah adalah emas baru. Banyak orang-orang Jatiwangi yang kemudian menjadi kaya raya karena tanah, dari membakar tanah yang mereka injak untuk dijual menjadi tanah yang menaungi rumah kita. Ya, genteng. Jatiwangi merupakan salah satu penghasil genteng terbesar se-Asia Tenggara. Melambungnya bisnis properti di Indonesia pada dekade 1980-1990-an, secara otomatis, membuat industri genteng di Jatiwangi ikut tancap gas. Tak ada genteng maka tak sayang. Situasi ini sempat membuat Jatiwangi menjadi genting. Persaingan industri memicu kondisi sosial yang \u2018memanas\u2019: premanisme, perang antar desa hingga penjarahan.<\/p>\n

Dua puluh tahun berlalu. Deru mesin penggiling tanah tak sekencang dulu. Industri genteng perlahan melorot. Mereka yang tetap berangkat ke \u2018jebor\u2019 (pabrik genteng tradisional) setiap paginya, bukan karena itu tempat yang menjanjikan, tetapi lebih karena itulah yang mereka tahu tentang Jatiwangi. Karena yang menjanjikan selanjutnya adalah mendaftarkan diri ke agen-agen tenaga kerja untuk mencari peruntungan di luar negeri. Miang ka Arab, begitu istilah orang Jatiwangi. Mereka yang dulu menjadi \u2018para petarung desa\u2019, kini menjadi duda-duda Arab, karena ditinggal istrinya untuk menjadi TKW di luar negeri.<\/p>\n

Akhir Desember tiga tahun lalu, Mahardika Yudha dan Mohammad Fauzi yang terlibat dalam Village Video Festival 2011 yang dibuat oleh Jatiwangi Art Factory (JAF), melakukan wawancara dengan beberapa warga, seperti para duda, keluarga yang ditinggalkan, dan juga beberapa Tenaga Kerja Wanita (TW) yang pergi ke Arab Saudi, sehingga ditemukan sebuah kecenderungan bahwa sebagian besar warga usia produktif merantau bekerja di luar kota atau bahkan luar negeri. Selain isu sosial yang mulai marak pasca-Reformasi 1998 itu, dua orang dari perwakilan Forum Lenteng ini juga melakukan berbagai pemetaan, seperti tentang bagaimana frekuensi warga menonton televisi dalam sehari, merekam situasi sehari-hari masyarakat dusun, membuat talkshow<\/i> politik di warung kopi, mengumpulkan foto-foto warga tentang kehidupan masa lalu Dusun Kliwon, cerita-cerita religius hingga mistik, sampai bencana hawa tikus di masa \u2018ngapat\u2019 (menanam padi di musim kemarau) yang cukup menghebohkan. Tiga tahun rekaman-rekaman itu tersimpan di dalam hardrive<\/i> 2 terabyte<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Pada Bulan Februari, 2014, Mahardika Yudha dan Mohammad Fauzi kembali ke JAF untuk memperlihatkan hasil rekonstruksinya atas rekaman-rekaman yang pernah direkam tiga tahun lalu itu dan juga beberapa rekaman baru yang dibuat rentang tahun 2012 sampai 2013. Filem ini melibatkan tiga warga Dusun Kliwon yang dijadikan penutur utama: Pak Herman (a.k.a Pak RW), Pak Wira (a.k.a Pak Kumis), dan Bu Samroh. Melalui cerita ketiga orang inilah, dua orang pembuat filem ini merekonstruksi ulang peta persoalan Jatiwangi melalui fragmen-fragmen dokumentasi keseharian di Dusun Kliwon.<\/p>\n

Filem rangjebor,<\/i> yang diambil dari \u2018orang jebor\u2019, mencoba menelisik pergeseran tersebut, bermanuver di antara kekompleksitasan nilai, harapan dan keyakinan akan tanah kelahiran bagi orang Jatiwangi. Belum lagi, potret satu mitos baru yang lahir dari tarik ulur antara kepercayaan lokal dan imaji modernitas. Kita akan banyak menemukan fragmen-fragmen ganjil yang menggangu pemahaman kita tentang desa dan kota. Menyusunya menjadi sejumlah pertanyaan tentang konsep kemajuan dan kearifan lokal yang, boleh jadi, ini sangat umum terjadi di berbagai daerah di Indonesia. Mengingatkan kita akan hasrat ekonomi manusia yang semakin kompleks. Ini menjadi dongeng baru tentang Jatiwangi.<\/p>\n

Dari tanah kembali ke tanah?<\/p>\n[mk_divider style=”double_dot” divider_color=”#c2c244″ divider_width=”full_width” margin_top=”20″ margin_bottom=”20″]\n

Once you step your feet in Jatiwangi, you will always deal with clay. Twenty years ago, clay was a serious business. Clay was the new gold. Many people in Jatiwangi became rich because of clay, from burning it and sold it as roof tiles for houses. Yes, roof tiles. Jatiwangi was one of the biggest roof tile producers in Southeast Asia. The rise of property business in Indonesia in the 1980s and 1990s automatically propelled the roof tile industry in Jatiwangi. No roof tile means no love. This situation once put Jatiwangi in a critical place. The industry competition has led to a \u2018heated\u2019 social condition: thugs\u2019 rule, war between villages and lootings. <\/span><\/p>\n

Twenty years have passed. The sound of clay grinder machine is not as loud as before. The roof tile industry has slowly shrunk. Those who still go to Jebor (a traditional roof tile factory) every morning do not go there because it is a promising place, rather because it is the place they know in Jatiwangi. The next promising thing is to enroll in Indonesian labor provider organizations in to seek some fortune abroad. Miangka Arab (Arab widower) is a term in Jatiwangi. They, who used to be \u2018the village fighters,\u2019 now become Arab widowers, for their wives left them to work abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last December, three years ago, Mahardika Yudha and Mohammad Fauzi were involved in the Village Video Festival 2011 held by Jatiwangi Art Factory. They conducted several interviews with villagers, such as the widowers, families left, and some women workers who had went to Saudi Arabia. Based on the interviews, they found a tendency that a large number of productive age villagers went to work outside the village or even abroad. Beside observing the social issues that began to prevail in the post-Reformasi 1998, these two delegations of Forum Lenteng conducted various mappings, such as the villagers\u2019 frequency of watching television per day; recorded the everyday life of the villagers; held talkshows about politics in a coffee shop; and collected villagers\u2019 photographs of the past life in Dusun Kliwon, religious and mystical stories, and a story of a quite horrendous plague during \u2018ngapat<\/i>\u2019 (a period of planting rice in dry season). Three years of recordings are saved in a two terrabyte hard-drive.<\/span><\/p>\n

On February 2014, MahardikaYudha and Mohammad Fauzi came back to Jatiwangi Art Factory to show the result of their three years of recordings, plus a few new recordings made in 2012-2013. This film involved three villagers of Dusun Kliwon who become the main narrators: Pak Herman (a.k.a Pak RW), Pak Wira (a.k.a Pak Kumis) and Bu Samroh. Through the stories of these three persons, the two filmmakers reconstructed the issues of Jatiwangi through documented fragments of the everyday life in Dusun Kliwon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rangjebor<\/i>, taken from \u2018orang Jebor\u2019 (Jebor people), tries to examine frictions, making maneuvers between the complexity of values, hope and faith in the homeland of Jatiwangi people. Not to mention a portrait of one new myth that was born out of the interplay between local beliefs and the image of modernity. We will find some weird fragments that disturb our understanding about village and city, which are composed into some questions about the concept of development and local wisdom which are possibly common in many regions in Indonesia. The film reminds us about the more complex human desire for better economy. The film becomes a new legend about Jatiwangi.<\/span><\/p>\n
