Total sebanyak 87 judul film dari 25 negara diputar sejak festival film ARKIPEL dibuka tanggal 19 Agustus, 2016.

Tahun ini, Dewan Juri ARKIPEL social/kapital memutuskan lima kategori penghargaan, yang masing-masing dibacakan oleh perwakilan Forum Lenteng, Otty Widasari (Indonesia), dan empat orang anggota dewan Juri, yakni Hafiz Rancajale (Indonesia), Keiko Okamura (Jepang), Scott Miller Berry (Amerika), dan Ruth Noack (Jerman). Kelima penghargaan tersebut adalah:

[mk_divider style=”single” divider_color=”#dddddd” divider_width=”full_width” margin_top=”20″ margin_bottom=”20″]

Forum Lenteng Award

[mk_divider style=”single” divider_color=”#dddddd” divider_width=”full_width” margin_top=”20″ margin_bottom=”20″]

Jury Short Film Award

Trêve (A Time to Rest) berhasil menumbuhkan kompleksitas dari masalah-masalah sejarah.

Forum Lenteng Award

As a category for the best film selected by Forum Lenteng, this Award reflects our reading position or critical attitude toward the development of cinematic visual works at an aesthetic and contextual level through the films selected by ARKIPEL. The award for this category is given to the film deemed the most open in offering communicative values, whether based on the artistry and content, providing a chance for a different social approach on art and wider experimental possibilities.

Forum Lenteng Award is given to A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery (or Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis, 2016) by Lav Diaz from Philippines. The Winner receives Rp 5.000.000,-

Today, the concept of nation keeps on moving. Within it, the concept of identity, culture and diversity are always shifting. And also inside it, the myth has became a strong dialect for us to understand the world. This film gives cinema the opportunity to redefine “nation”. Realism in cinema becomes spatial, it is surrounded by the landscape, culture and tradition, identity, collective memory and the myths.

Jury Short Film Award

This year, the Juror decided to add a category to honor a short film in the International Competition. With so many impressive feature length films in the Competition, we felt strongly about giving praise to Giovanni Giaretta’s An Inaccurate Distance (2015) from Italy. The Winner receives Rp 2.500.000,-

Giovanni Giaretta’s portrait of an interpreter who, with his own voice-over, shares his self-taught history of learning a multitude of languages. The interpreters’ life history is presented through a dynamic series of static shots and simple pans of his notebooks, typewriters, photocopies and paintings. Giaretta’s caring camera brings languages to life in a deeply personal cinematic language all its own.

[mk_divider style=”single” divider_color=”#dddddd” divider_width=”full_width” margin_top=”20″ margin_bottom=”20″]

Peransi Award

It is given to a special cinematic work and fresh in experimenting various possible approaches to aspects of social and medium-ness. In particular, this category focuses on young filmmaker below 31 years old. This category is inspired from David Albert Peransi (1939-1993), artist, critic, teacher, and advocate of modernity in fine arts and documentary and experimental cinema in Indonesia.

Peransi Award is given to Kodachrome (2013) by the K-14 Collective (Agatha Corniquet, Julien Doigny, Nicolas Lebecque, Thyl Mariage, Lydie Whishaupt-Claudel) from Belgium. The winner receives Rp 5.000.000,-

Although we find the last section of the film superfluous, we greatly appreciate this personal project by a group of young people documenting their journey to the last Kodachrome film lab in the world on the final days before the lab ceases to process this legendary colour film stock forever. The K-14 Collective has created a road movie without relying on sentimentality or nostalgia and simply shares its journey from Brussels, Belgium to Parsons, Kansas with a mix of humour, humanity and a strongly layered non-synchronized soundtrack.

[mk_divider style=”single” divider_color=”#dddddd” divider_width=”full_width” margin_top=”20″ margin_bottom=”20″]

Jury Award

It is given to the best film according to the members of jury in consideration, that there is freshness and uniqueness of the language of expression that reaches personal maturity in revealing and communicating the maker’s aesthetic experience, struggle over the content, as well as subjective exploration of text/context into its current representation. Very likely, values offered in the best film in this category is individual solely because of the issue and the approach does not always apply in general in diverse cultural and social contexts.

Jury Award is given to Trêve (2016) by Myriam El Hajj from Lebanon. The Winner receives Rp 10.000.000,-

The Juror greatly appreciates how this documentary presents, frames, and includes personal perspectives in a historical wound neatly hidden inside ourselves and our relatives. The humble frames transform the rigid tradition of documentary form, becoming lively in the hands of Myriam El Hajj. Trêve (A Time to Rest) successfully brings forth the complexity of historical issues. Site becomes something intimate and brings us to the very root of humanity that limits human beings. We were deeply touched by the young filmmakers personal courage. The Jury Award is given to Trêve for its accomplishment of presenting a delicate cinematic language in a film revealing something grand.

[mk_divider style=”single” divider_color=”#dddddd” divider_width=”full_width” margin_top=”20″ margin_bottom=”20″]

ARKIPEL Award

It is given to the best film in general based on the members of jury’s assessment, which has high artistic achievement with potential strength in sensing the choice of its contextual perspective. Through its content, all these aspects in its visual language successfully proposed a new representation on view of our contemporary world, as counter-discourse towards common perspective on particular circumstance disclosed by its subject matter. The best film in this category, in particular, considerably represents ARKIPEL statement of values offered by enthusiasm and reason of zeitgeist, inspiring the aesthetic invention on world view, which on one side has been generally agreed, but on the other side demands to always be defined and redefined.

ARKIPEL Award is given to Zone Zero (2015) by Farzad Moloudi from Belgium. The Winner receives Rp 10.000.000,-

For a few years, a diverse group of people from all wakes of life, those forced by bare life circumstances into a life as illegal migrants and those in search of ways to realise utopian social ideals, formed a community of squatters in the heart of Europe. Farzad Moloudi”s Zone Zero documents their life together, without resorting to stereotype in image or discourse, without falling into the trap of identity production, without relying on simplistic explanation. Always close to the events unfolding on the screen, but never transgressing personal borders, with a heartwarming passion for letting people be, allowing conflict around limited resources and social disenfranchisement appear in all their complexity, the filmmaker”s ethical stance truly impressed us. With simple means but a superbly edited structure and a beautiful soundtrack, this documentary draws its viewers into what must be seen as a highly relevant portrait of our current times. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
