Riset ini berusaha mengungkap praktik pembuatan filem yang berada di luar industri dan sudah tercatat dalam sejarah filem Indonesia. Dari penelusuran ini, kami mendapatkan dua nama: Rusdy Attamimi dan Kwee Zwan Liang. Keduanya adalah pembuat filem \u2018amatir\u2019 yang membuat filem untuk ranah privat dan keduanya merepresentasikan dua periode dalam sejarah Indonesia, sebelum dan sesudah kemerdekaan.<\/p>\n

Ada banyak lapisan yang terkandung dalam filem \u2018amatir\u2019 yang merekam keluarga-keluarga tersebut, seperti bagaimana kamera seakan-akan menjadi sarana bermain bagi subjek dan pelaku rekam. Kamera menangkap kegugupan dan ketidakterdugaan atas waktu dan lokasi, yang mana terus berubah dan selalu berpindah tanpa mengikuti aturan konstruksi naratif yang baku dalam sinema.<\/p>\n

Melalui dua tokoh yang menjadi pondasi filem tersebut, kami melakukan eksplorasi menelusuri bagaimana perjalanan reproduksi gambar bekerja. Dari Jakarta, Arnhem, Harleem, Amsterdam, Zaandam, Den Haag, hingga ke Jatipiring, kami menemui berbagai kisah reproduksi gambar yang membawa kami pada pertanyaan apa itu amatir, apa itu profesional, apa itu kamera, apa itu sinema, apa itu kenyataan, hingga apa itu presentasi. Kisah-kisah ini memiliki pengalamannya masing-masing. Dari tokoh akademisi, pedagang kamera, hingga kepala desa. Kisah-kisah mereka kemudian memperlihatkan dua organisme yang berbeda; antara reproduksi image teknologis dengan reproduksi image non-teknologis. There are many layers in the ‘amateur’ films that record these families, such as how the camera seems to be a means of playing for the subjects and the recorder. It captures the nervousness and unpredictability of time and location, which are constantly changing and always moving without following the standardized narrative construction rules in cinema.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through those two figures who become the foundation of this film, we explored how the course of image reproduction works. From Jakarta, Arnhem, Harleem, Amsterdam, Zaandam, Den Haag, to Jatipiring, we encountered numerous stories of images reproduction leading us to the question of what is amateur, what is professional, what is a camera, what is cinema, what is reality, what is presentation. These stories have their own experiences. From the academic figure, camera merchants, to the village headman. Their stories show two different organisms; between technological image reproduction and non-technological image reproduction. Tiga orang pembuat filem menelusuri jejak-jejak sinema keluarga di Indonesia. Dalam perjalanan itu mereka bertemu dengan sinema Kwee Zwan Liang dan sinema Rusdy Attamimi.
