Kembali Lagi ke Akar Pohon Dengan Kidlat Tahimik

Suasana mulai ramai pada Selasa (14\/8) sore di Kineforum. Sejam sebelum pemutaran dimulai, orang-orang mulai antri agar bisa mendapatkan tiket untuk menonton The Perfumed Nightmare <\/em>(1977) karya Kidlat Tahimik. Kidlat Tahimik sering dipanggil sebagai Bapak Sinema Independen Filipina. Pada usianya yang ke-75 tahun, Kidlat Tahimik masih mempunyai semangat orang muda.<\/p>\n

Sepuluh menit sebelum pemutaran dimulai, para penonton diperbolehkan masuk dalam ruang pemutaran. Dengan jumlah penoton yang mencapai jumlah 46 orang, untuk mendapatkan tempat duduk yang bagus menjadi cukup sulit jika datang telat. Ketika penonton sudah duduk semua, sebuah kata pengantar disampaikan oleh Kidlat Tahimik bersama dengan Merv Espina, yang merupakan kurator program ini dan berasal dari Filipina.<\/p>\n

Kidlat sedang memperkenalkan filem pertamanya<\/p><\/div>\n

The Perfumed Nightmare<\/em> atau dalam bahasa aslinya Mababangong Bangungot<\/em> adalah tentang seorang pengemudi jeepney dari desa kecil di Filipina yang bermimpi untuk bisa ke Amerika demi mencari kehidupan yang lebih baik. Filem pertama oleh Kidlat Tahimik inilah yang meletakkan dia di peta sinema dunia dan memungkinkan dia untuk bisa mengunjungi berbagai lokasi bersama dengan pemutaran filemnya ini.<\/p>\n

Setelah pemutaran, ada sebuah pertunjukan yang diberikan oleh Kidlat Tahimik. Dalam pertunjukan ini, Kidlat bercerita tantang seseorang yang telah berpergian jauh, keluar negri, untuk mendapatkan edukasi. Ketika ia balik<\/em> lagi ke negara asalnya, ia hampir melupakan iramanya; irama yang diajarkan oleh nenek moyangnya.<\/p>\n

Performans oleh Kidlat Tahimik<\/p><\/div>\n

Untuk mengakhiri pertunjukannya, Kidlat Tahimik bercerita sedikit tentang pengalamanya hingga akhirnya ia memutuskan membuat filem yang bisa juga digunakan sebagai nasihat untuk calon-calon pembuat filem lainnya. Kidlat Tahimik menjelaskan tentang sesuatu bernama Duende<\/em> yang dimiliki semua orang dan unik bagi setiap orang. Duende<\/em> itu bisa diterjemahkan sebagai cara seseorang melihat dunia dan ia dipengaruhi oleh bagaimana seseorang dibesarkan dan oleh lingkungan sekitar macam apa. Duende<\/em> ini sangat mempengaruhi hasil karya yang akan diciptakan, karena Duende<\/em> itu adalah bagaimana seseorang memandang dunia dan pengalamannya.<\/p>\n

Seorang mahasiswa Universitas Multimedia Nusantara yang turut hadir, mengatakan bahwa filem tersebut sangat unik dan patut diingat. \u201cSebuah filem yang menguji kebenaran dan mimpi Amerika (the American dream<\/em>) dengan keluguan orang Filipina (atau warga negara penjajahan)\u201d. Ada juga seorang seniman yang mengatakan bahwa ia terkejut ketika menonton filem tersebut karena filemnya bagus sekali. Sebab walaupun dia sudah mengenal nama Kidlat Tahimik sejak lama, namun The Perfumed Nightmare<\/em> menjadi filem pertama karya Kidlat yang ia tonton.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere on Tuesday (14\/8) at Kineforum has started to be more crowded. About an hour before the screening, people began to queue to get the ticket to watch an oeuvre of KidlatTahimik, The Perfumed Nightmare <\/em>(1977). Kidlat, who often dubbed as The Godfather of Philippines Independent Cinema, holds a very youthful spirit even in his 75 years of life.<\/p>\n

Ten minutes before the screening, the audiences were allowed to enter the screening room. With about 46 viewers, it is quite tricky to get a good seat if you came late. When all audiences have taken their place, Kidlat Tahimik along with Merv Espina, the curator of this program who also came from Philippines, gave a short introduction.<\/p>\n

Kidlat was introducing his first film<\/p><\/div>\n

The Perfumed Nightmare,<\/em> or Mababangong Bangungot,<\/em>\u00a0 is about a jeepney driver from a small village in Philippines who dream of flying to America to seek a better life. This film is the first film Kidlat made, and it put him on the map of the world cinema which later allows him to go to many places along with the screening of his film.<\/p>\n

After the screening, Kidlat Tahimik gave a performance in which he told a story of someone who has gone far away, abroad, to get a proper education. When he returned to his origin country, he almost forgot his rhythm; the rhythm taught by his ancestors.<\/p>\n

Performance by Kidlat Tahimik<\/p><\/div>\n

To end his performance, Kidlat Tahimik also recounted his experience that led him to the filmmaking which later might be considered as advice for young filmmakers. Kidlat Tahimik explained about something called as Duende<\/em> owned by everyone and it is unique in each of us. That Duende<\/em> might be translated as a way of seeing the world, and it was influenced by how a person was raised and by what kind of environment that person was raised. This Duende<\/em> will affect the works created by a person because that Duende<\/em> is how a person looking at the world and the experiences they had.<\/p>\n

A student of Multimedia Nusantara University who also came to this program said that the film is unique and memorable. \u201c A film that tests the truth and the American dream through an innocenct Filipino (or a citizen of a colonised nation)\u201d. There was also an artist saying that he was surprised at watching that film because it was terrific. Even though he has known Kidlat Tahimik for some time, The Perfumed Nightmare <\/em>is the very first film of Kidlat he watched.<\/p>\n
