This is instead a good beginning to start making new images that can collapse the penal colony. To everyone who has participated in the series of activities organized in ARKIPEL Penal Colony for the last week, we hope that the message ARKIPEL wants to say can inspire all of you. More than that, we also hope that the message can be continued to many more people.

The Implicit Colonialism https://arkipel.org/the-implicit-colonialism/ https://arkipel.org/the-implicit-colonialism/#respond Sat, 26 Aug 2017 03:11:55 +0000 http://arkipel.org/?p=7480 I remembered the colonization occurred to the local beliefs, which were forced to follow the six main religions in Indonesia. In fact, recently, there was an action of the Sunda Wiwitan followers who were trying to defend their belief by lying down on the street, when they were threatened to be dissolved because of not following the religious principle recognized by the state or the majority.

Beyond the Boundary of Image, Breaking the Regime of Sensibility https://arkipel.org/beyond-boundary-image-breaking-regime-sensibility/ https://arkipel.org/beyond-boundary-image-breaking-regime-sensibility/#respond Sat, 26 Aug 2017 02:00:23 +0000 http://arkipel.org/?p=7300 If you decided to see a picture of a young woman, then the picture of an old woman will disappear from your mind, and vice versa. The keyword used in this statement is “deciding.” You have an authority to decide which image you want to see. However, sometimes you must also question whether your authority truly belongs to you or instead a construction of your daily social life?

Those two white fabrics, which recently I recognized as the winding sheet because the material seemed compatible, received the projection of Dr. Huyung’s films. It turned out that I was not alone.

Film can help to decipher the misunderstanding and subjugation toward a community.

Three Parts for “Penal Colony” in the Context of Latin America https://arkipel.org/three-parts-penal-colony-context-latin-america/ https://arkipel.org/three-parts-penal-colony-context-latin-america/#respond Thu, 24 Aug 2017 08:00:53 +0000 http://arkipel.org/?p=7309 Regarding with “Penal Colony” as the topic, those films which were compiled into this screening session tried to retract the memories about the dark time from the dictatorship of the civil-military experienced by the Latin America. Grounding from the concept of short story by Franz Kafka, In the Penal Colony, that screening framed the problems and images related to the values of subjugation and hatred which construct instability of society in Latin America.
