The three films in this program are part of the Minke Project, a project to read the Buru Quartet and use it as inspiration to produce films. The three works are: Pipit dalam Badai, by Van Luber Parensen; Peta Gula, by Ali Satri Effendi; and Kulihat Kau Lihat Dia, by Helmi Yusron, are the three films produced in the final period of study of the 6th batch of MILISIFILEM class (Edelweiss batch).

Through Candikala, we want to develop the skills of our research practice, which has been in the realm of contemporary art and media, to find new ways to navigate the findings of artifacts, historical archives, historical sites, and oral histories into urgent contemporary issues. To be able to see the global discourses of history and art more closely, learning and unlearning from institutions committed to finding new perspectives in historiography is important for those of us who are beginning to access current discourses in archaeology, philosophy and their relation to socio-political contexts in Indonesia and the world.

Farce as a construction in these four essay films becomes an entry point to dissect historical oddities that often repeat themselves and fall into more or less the same holes. Like the entangling love stories in literary conventions, namely "star-crossed lover" which has the meaning of "unlucky/unable to be together" throughout civilization in Shakespeare's Romeo-Juliet, Rizal's Crisostomo Ibarra-Maria Clara, Toer's Minke-Annelies, it is an on-point allegory of the conflict between power and society. These four films are contemporary realizations of such a relationship between the regime and the public from filmmakers who are aware of the transformative power of cinema, no matter how small it can shift the poles.

We can see these three films as the archaeological work of the filmmakers. Archaeological work that has the goal of reconstruction is achieved by filmmakers by excavating sites of violence, finding artifacts, archives and testimonies, no matter how forgetful or braggart the subject is. From these fragmentary findings, the filmmakers utilize their filibustering side, fully aware of the structures of subordination they have inherited and deal with a history that, even though it is beyond reality, has the urgency to be rethought.

This is a map of the location of millennials, whose continuum is in social simulation, and can be seen as a form of disregard for the dominant cinema culture.

A subtle disruption to the system arises from the daily lives of people on the "periphery", as reflected in two curated films here. Even though they do not fully agitate the dominating authorities, the "divergent model" of work, and the behaviour or response that belong to the marginalised people (outside the system) keep alive the criticism of social and economic determinants. That is perhaps the one of bromocorah's existential trait in the society.
