Film Apocalypse: Perang Dunia Pertama dibuat untuk menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan mendasar tersebut dengan menggunakan pendekatan strategis dan global yang, meskipun begitu, ditelisik melalui sudut pandang yang intim dan peka. Film ini dirangkai dari potongan-potongan film berdurasi total 300 jam yang kebanyakan belum pernah diterbitkan dan harus diwarnai. Terdiri dari lima episode, film ini membawa kita selain ke medan-medan pertempuran yang dilihat dari kacamata penguasa dan prajurit, juga ke keseharian masyarakat sipil. Kita diajak berkelana dari parit-parit di daerah utara Prancis sampai ke perbatasan-perbatasan kecil Rusia, Serbia, Turki dan Palestina. Ribuan prajurit dari lima benua mati atau, bila tidak, menganga luka pada tubuh dan jiwa mereka.
Setelah kesuksesan Apocalypse: Perang Dunia Kedua dan Apocalypse: Hitler, opus baru ini diterbitkan dalam rangka memperingati 100 tahun Perang Dunia Pertama.

Are the roots of World War II to be found in the devastation of World War I and the Treaty of Versailles?
Apocalypse: World War I seeks to address such questions using a global and all-encompassing yet personal and sensitive approach, drawing from over 300 hours of archival footage and tracing the journeys of the civilians and soldiers across the world, anonymous or well-known, who fought for survival in this unprecedented period in human history, both heroic and barbaric.
Following the very successful TV series Apocalypse: The Second World War and Apocalypse: Hitler, this new opus marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of WWI. Apocalypse: World War I is divided in 5 episodes using archival material artfully colorized in a painstakingly researched process that brings the footage to life with unprecedented impact.

Episode 1: Fury (Pra PD I – Agustus 1914)
Tanggal 28 Juni 1914 di Sarajevo, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, pewaris tahta kerajaan Austria-Hongaria, dibunuh. Pembunuhan ini menyiram minyak pada dendam kesumat lama monarki-monarki Eropa. Kekaisaran Austria-Hongaria mendeklarasikan perang terhadap Serbia dan sekaligus mengaktifkan kembali persekutuan negara-negara. Pada Agustus 1914, Pasukan Jerman mulai mendekati Paris.
Episode 2: Fear (Agustus 1914 – Agustus 1915)
Serbuan Rusia ke wilayah Prusia menyebabkan eksodus besar-besaran warga sipil yang ingin menghindari zona perang ke arah Barat. Sementara itu, Pasukan Jerman berhasil dihentikan oleh Prancis di Pertempuran Marne. Peperangan di parit-parit terbit, sedangkan agak jauh di Selatan, Italia dan Turki terlibat pula dalam konflik. Sekutu-sekutu Inggris dan Prancis meminta bantuan kepada kedua negara tersebut, sementara wilayah-wilayah mereka sendiri sedang terjamah perang.

Episode 1: Fury (Before WWI – August 1914)
On June 28th, 1914, the assassination of an obscure Austrian archduke in Sarajevo triggers the most disastrous conflict the world has ever known. Germany becomes an enemy to France, invades Belgium, and in September arrives at the gates of Paris.
Episode 2: Fear (August 1914 – August 1915)
The French army stops the German advance at the battle of the Marne, while the Germans halt the Russians at Tannenberg on the eastern front. In France, the warring parties dig themselves in for 4 years in the trenches. Soldiers from the colonies come lend a hand to their colonizers and the war becomes global.
