The raw materials for this film are cultural dialects, based on performance artist Tracie Morris and her poem titled “Africa.” The power of the sound reminds one of cultural origins of the diasporas, which in this work are explored, together with news archives pertaining issues of freedom of expression of the diasporas. Based on the power of sound that voices “what if?” which guides the archival image selections, this work is a statement of contemporaneity, a sort of filmic pamphlet for diaspora’s narrations of freedom. The combination of medium exploration and sonic performances is a new cinematic frontier that shapes this project into a political-cultural satire of cultural dialects. Its sonic dimension and still images makes this work like a contemporary cinematic pamphlet.
