I’m not a Woman (Hossein Abbasi, Iran, 2017, 53 minutes)

Despite of being born as a woman, Mezel always knew that she is a man. Mezel is also good at hunting, dating women, keeping cattle, and being respected by the surrounding community. This ‘investigative’ documentary is structured as a hint of the actual issues of the boundaries in women and men gender by following Mezel’s life and gathering citizens’ responses about the protagonist, the confession and daily life of Mezel, as trans-man in a remote village in Iran.

Lying Women (Deborah Kelly, Australia, 2016, 4 minutes)

The stop-motion collage of female figures in paintings by European master artists who have now become classics. From it, a picture of how visual history has presented images of women, but also the sights of male artists who look at them and create distinctive poses in representing women. This film asks the essential question for our time about the extent to which such views have not changed much.

Alaalang Walang Malay / Unconscious Memory (Allan Balberona, Philippines, 2016, 81 minutes)

Plot of this film moves between flashbacks and now. The visual and narrative motives take place as a kind of unconscious non-linear recollection behind the abduction and rape tragedy experienced by women figures in their attempts to disclose environmental crimes committed by mining companies that seem to collude with the authorities. This political drama was expressed in the interrogation sequences against Mina at the end of her search for answers on the mining disaster at Marinduque, an island in the far south of Manila. He and his two colleagues later became victims of violence from those who protected and prevented their investigations.
