Film List

A simple story about a rendezvous of two best friends evoking the childhood memories. A short poetic biography of childhood, the village where he lived, the changes occurred in the city. Through a humorous narrative, Teno describes how the relationship of these two separated best friends where one of them remained in the village and the other wandered away, bumped into the reality of social problems in the Cameroonian society.

Le Malentendu Colonial / The Colonial Misunderstanding (Cameroon, 2004, 78 minutes)

Germany has the shortest colonial history compared to other colonial countries in Europe. Through this film, Jean-Marie Teno unravels the history of German missionary involvement in colonial projects in Africa. He retraced the sites in Germany and Africa. According to Teno, one of the important moments in the history of African colonization was the Berlin Conference in 1884, when the colonial countries established a power sharing agreement in Africa. The Christian Evangelists paved the way for colonialism and laid the groundwork for European legislation in Africa. Teno demonstrates how colonialism destroys the African faith and social structure, replacing it with Europe as the only acceptable route to modernization.
