Malam Pembukaan ARKIPEL Penal Colony - 5th Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival

Ruang-ruang alternatif bagi distribusi sinema dan pengetahuannya kembali hadir di tengah hiruk-pikuk Indonesia, atau di Jakarta khususnya. Pembukaan ARKIPEL Penal Colony – 5th Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival berlangsung lancar dan meriah. Sekitar 385 tamu, baik undangan maupun media dan umum, hadir memenuhi kursi-kursi GoetheHaus, Goethe-Institute Jakarta pada Sabtu, 19 Agustus 2017 pukul 19:00.

Pada Pembukaan kali ini, ARKIPEL memulai helatan acaranya dengan iringan lagu dari FRAU. Penyanyi dan musisi asal Jogjakarta yang memiliki nama asli Leilani Hermiasih tersebut menyenandungkan 4 buah lagu sembari memainkan keyboard untuk mengiringi suaranya. Usai lagu keempat yang berjudul “Dari Balik Jeruji Besi”, penonton yang berjubel dalam aula GoetheHaus pun bertepuk tangan meriah.

Direktur ARKIPEL, Yuki Aditya, kemudian naik ke atas panggung, memberikan pidato sambutan. Ia memaparkan tentang pelaksanaan ARKIPEL yang dari tahun ke tahun, sejak pertama kali dilaksanakan di tahun 2013, telah diniatkan sebagai lokus distribusi dan produksi pengetahuan sinema dengan jangkauan ruang yang lebih luas, baik secara lokal maupun internasional. Ia mengungkapkan bahwa dengan landasan inilah, maka tahun ini Forum Festival kembali diadakan dengan mengundang para peserta yang mewakili komunitas-komunitas filem dari berbagai lokasi di Indonesia.

Selain itu, tahun ini, pameran Kultursinema juga kembali hadir dengan menampilkan filem-filem dari periode Revolusi, yaitu tahun 1942 sampai akhir dekade 1940an, serta filem karya Dr. Huyung.

“Pameran kali ini juga berfokus pada karya-karya dari Dr. Huyung, seorang pembuat filem yang terlahir sebagai orang Korea bernama Hae Young, dan berganti menjadi Eitaro Hinatsu, lalu meninggal sebagai orang Indonesia bernama Dr. Huyung,” tutur alumni jurusan Administrasi Fiskal, Universitas Indonesia tersebut. Pameran yang diselenggarakan di Gudang Sarinah Ekosistem ini telah dibuka pada 18 Agustus 2017 malam lalu dan akan berlangsung hingga 25 Agustus 2017, mulai pukul 13.00 hingga 20.00 WIB.

Selama kurun waktu hingga 25 Agustus 2017 ke depan, ARKIPEL akan menayangkan 89 judul filem. Sebanyak 31 filem di antaranya merupakan bagian dari Kompetisi Internasional yang telah terpilih dari lebih 1.722 judul filem yang didaftarkan dari 80-an negara dari seluruh dunia, termasuk dari Indonesia. Selain itu, program kurasi filem Indonesia, Candrawala, juga kembali hadir untuk melihat peta perkembangan sinema di Indonesia dan bagaimana pembuat filem merefleksikan teknologi dan keseharian mereka sendiri.

Tak lupa, Direktur Festival yang telah menjabat sejak ARKIPEL dimulai ini mengucapkan terima kasih kepada segenap pihak yang telah membantu terlaksananya ARKIPEL kelima. Menutup pidatonya, Yuki menyebutkan satu per satu nama Juri Kompetisi Film Internasional, kurator tamu, serta peserta Kurator Muda Asia yang terpilih. Para tamu yang namanya disebutkan pun satu per satu berdiri dan disambut riuh tepuk tangan penonton.

Mengakhiri pidatonya, Yuki memperkenalkan dan mengundang ke atas panggung anggota Forum Lenteng dan kawan-kawan yang telah membantu pengorganisasian dan program ARKIPEL Penal Colony.

Direktur Artistik ARKIPEL sekaligus Ketua Forum Lenteng, Hafiz Rancajale, dalam sambutannya mengungkapkan bahwa pada tahun ini, tema Penal Colony muncul melalui dialog yang cukup panjang. Tanpa berlama-lama memaparkan sambutannya, Hafiz kemudian mengucapkan terima kasih atas kehadiran Direktur Jenderal Kebudayaan Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Hilmar Farid dalam Pembukaan ARKIPEL kali ini dan mengundangnya untuk memberi sambutan.

Hilmar Farid, Dirjen Kebudayaan, turut memberikan sepatah dua patah kata sambutan.

Kesalutan akan konsistensi ARKIPEL selama 5 tahun berturut-turut disampaikan oleh Hilmar Farid yang kala itu hadir dengan kesederhanaan tanpa menduga akan adanya keharusan berpidato. Ketika seluruh anggota Forum Lenteng yang hadir di atas panggung kembali ke tempat duduk mereka masing-masing, Afrian Purnama selaku perwakilan dari tim selektor filem Kompetisi Internasional kemudian membacakan pengantar untuk pemutaran filem pembuka festival.

Filem-filem pada pembukaan kali ini, menurut Afrian, menjelaskan kembali satu pertanyaan genting sekarang terhadap konsep-konsep dan pandangan-pandangan tentang makna kolektivisme yang kita anut dan kita percaya sekarang. Dadyaa (The Woodpekers of Rotha) karya Puja Gurung dan Bibusan Basnet dari Nepal, kemudian El Beccero Pintado (The Painted Calf) karya David Pantaleon dari Spanyol, lalu yang ketiga Estate karya Ronny Trocker dari Perancis, dan akhirnya Nyo Vweta Nafta karya Iko Costa dari Portugal kemudian pun diputar secara berurutan selama sekitar 50 menit.

Usai acara resmi pembukaan yang berlangsung hingga sekitar pukul 20.30, para hadirin pun membanjir di area lounge GoetheHaus. Sebagian tamu menelusuri selasar GoetheHaus yang diisi 31 poster filem Kompetisi Internasional. Sebagian lainnya berkumpul di ruang terbuka di tengah Goethe Institut Jakarta untuk saling berbincang sembari menikmati hidangan ringan yang disajikan.

Tuturan serupa juga muncul dari Ellena Ekarahendy, desainer grafis yang juga tergabung dalam Serikat Sindikasi. Di tengah dentuman musik yang dimainkan Klub Karya Bulu Tangkis kala itu, Ellena mengungkapkan rasa salutnya akan konsistensi pelaksanaan ARKIPEL hingga bertumbuh sebesar ini dan terus mendatangkan berbagai pegiat dan pembuat filem dari dalam maupun luar negeri. Menurutnya, hal ini penting karena dapat memberi pengalaman baru dalam menonton atau tentang sinema itu sendiri. ***

Opening Ceremony of ARKIPEL Penal Colony - 5th Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival

The opening of ARKIPEL Penal Colony – 5th Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival went smoothly and lively. In its Opening this time, ARKIPEL started the occasion with songs from FRAU. After the fourth song entitled “Dari Balik Jeruji Besi” (From Behind Iron Bars), the people crowding in the GoetheHaus hall, many even sat on the stairs, gave their applauses.

Director of ARKIPEL, Yuki Aditya, then went onto the stage to read his opening speech. This cultural activist said that the implementation of ARKIPEL from year to year, since it was first implemented in 2013, has been intended as a locus of distribution and production of cinematic knowledge to a wider range of scope, locally and internationally. The Artistic Director of ARKIPEL and founder and chairman of Forum Lenteng, Hafiz Rancajale, in his speech revealed that this year, the Penal Colony as theme of ARKIPEL, emerged through long dialogues. Without lingering in his speech, Hafiz then thanked the Director General of Culture of The Ministry of Education and Culture, Hilmar Farid, who attended the opening of ARKIPEL this year and invited him to give a speech.

“Congratulations to ARKIPEL for the opening. I like the event and also the third film screened today.” said Renan Laru-an, a researcher and curator from Philippines who this year also became the curator of 8th OK.Video Indonesia Media Arts Festival (2017) in Jakarta.

Similar expression also appeared from Ellena Ekarahendy, a graphic designer who is also part of Serikat Sindikasi. In the midst of the music played by Klub Karya Bulutangkis, Ellena expressed her salute for the consistency of ARKIPEL which now has grown this big and continue to bring various activists and filmmakers from Indonesia and abroad.
