Cuplikan filem Asier ETA Biok, karya Amaia Merino dan Aitor Merino (2013)

JAKARTA, ARKIPEL, Forum Lenteng – Minggu (14/09/14) pukul 15.00 WIB Kineforum memutar filem yang masuk Kompetisi Internasional 3 (IC 3), rangkaian acara ARKIPEL Electoral Risk – Jakarta International Documentary & Experimental Film Festival 2014.

Something Unique of Asier ETA Biok

JAKARTA, ARKIPEL, Forum Lenteng — Sunday (14/09/2014) at 03:00 pm, Kineforum studio screened the film which was included the International Competition 3, one of the series of events in ARKIPEL Electoral Risk – Jakarta International Documentary & Experimental Film Festival 2014. The film was Asier ETA Biok or Asier and I, the work of Amaia and Aitor Merino. There were six people gathered inside the studio for the screening.

The movie began with the introduction of the friendship between the Asier and Aitor Merino. How they spent their school life, parting before eventually meeting again. What makes this documentary interesting is how Aitor Merino displayed their old photographs back when they were kids, and displaying those scenes by enacting them alone, such as when the police went into his house quietly. He simultaneously played himself and the police holding a gun. The audience broke into laughter at that particular scene.

Overall, this film tried to paint the figure of Asier as an activist, and defender of Basque (a small area sandwiched between Spain and France, where the people yearned for independence), and perhaps in the eyes of the Spanish government he is someone who needs to be destroyed, but behind it all we can see Aitor Merino’s point of view of the real Asier —a simple and friendly man who wants to fight for the rights of Basque citizens, through military organization ETA.

The audience’s face was beaming as they exited Kineforum studio, probably because the packaging is made fun by the filmmakers. There are the spices of humor, and compassion blended beautifully in this documentary film.
